Our numbers jumped up by 10 which gave us a total of 65 in attendance which was very encouraging! This is my first blog post. I'm also about 4 days away from our first public worship service in Redford, MI. MercyRoad Church is about to launch a monthly service this coming Sunday, October 18! <br /><br />Why a monthly service? We want to be a church that knows the people of Redford and serves the people of Redford. When we are not ramping up for a church service we are busy finding needs in our community and meeting those needs. Let me tell you about one such story...<br /><br />A couple of weekends ago there were 4 of us from the MercyRoad Launch team that volunteered at a local festival called Oktoberfest. We ran a cashier box, handled tickets for food and drink, served at the first aid station and a hay maze. Really simple stuff. Afterwards my co-pastor Josh and I offered to help clean up and tear down as the festival came to a close. First we took care of garbage, then we took down signs. We kept asking, "What else do you need done?" We'd get another job, complete it and ask, "What else do you need done?" Eventually everything was taken care of and we then found ourselves gathered in a circle with the directors of the festival and other Redford Township officials swapping stories about life and the church we are starting. <br /><br />Isn't that cool? By persevering and sticking around till the very end, we showed that we really care about them and lending a hand to what they're doing. In turn, real relationship was established and friendships are forming. We also got to share the good news that MercyRoad Church is all about the Prodigal Son story (Luke 15:11-32), and God is the kind of God who runs down the road to welcome home his kids who've wandered far from Him.
